- Academic Policies
- Incomplete Grades: NAU provides specific guidelines about when a grade of "incomplete" is appropriate:
- "A student, who, for reasons beyond the student's control, is unable to complete course requirements during the instructional period, may make a request or submit a petition (depending on the department’s process and/or policy) to the instructor for a grade of Incomplete (“I”). The student must be passing the course and must have completed a majority of the course. Non-attendance, poor performance, or intentions to repeat the course do not justify issuance of an “I” grade. "
- Instructors are given discretion over when an incomplete is appropriate --- when work has been satisfactory in quality. My policy is that an incomplete is appropriate only when a student has completed and averaged at least a C (75) on 70% of the work assigned to that point in the semester. For more information about Incomplete grades, please see the academic regulations link above.
